The Llama is the national symbol of Peru and appears on many tourist products, as well as coins and stamps.
Fun Fact!
Llamas (Lama glama) have been used as pack animals for centuries by the people of the Andes. For distances up to 20 miles, they can carry up to 75 pounds in weight. If they are loaded with any more than that, they will generally lie down and spit until their load is lightened! Llamas can spit distances of more than 15 feet (4.5 metres). Despite their size, Llama’s feet, which comprise of soft pads and two toenails, have less impact on the ground than an average hikers boot.
