Feeding the animals

At Whitehouse Farm Centre we pride ourselves on giving everyone the opportunity to interact and feed some of our animals.
As well as handling the animals you can feed some of our animals!*

We’re here to answer all your questions

You can feed our sheep, goats, horses, ponies, donkeys, Llamas, Alpacas, Emus, Fallow Deer, cows and pigs.

Our team will plan and organise your whole day.

• Food for all children to feed the animals.
• Tractor and trailer ride around the centre.
• Use of our indoor multi-level soft play “The Farmers Den” and all outdoor recreation areas.
• A knowledgeable guide is provided for the duration of your visit. All our school guides are carefully selected, fully trained and adhere to a strict code of conduct.

We have a range of undercover facilities in case of wet weather (small animals, large animals, soft play, events barn, sand play within picnic barn and café.) The centre welcomes picnickers offering indoor heated picnic facilities as well as outdoor picnic areas for use in warmer weather. We operate a no smoking policy within all buildings and outdoor areas of the centre. The centre has excellent hand washing facilities throughout the farm environment including hand washing stations located at key points around the centre.

  1. Pick an animal (See 'What can I feed?')
  2. Open your hand into a FLAT hand to make it look like a dinner plate!!
(Very important to keep your hand flat as animals have teeth and we do not want them accidentally nibbling your fingers thinking it's food).
  3. Get some animal food from your bag and place it on your flat hand.
(Don’t put your bag too close as greedy animals, especially the goats, will try to grab it!)
  4. Extend your hand so the animal can use its soft furry lips and tongue to eat the food from your hand!
  5. MOST IMPORTANT WASH YOUR HANDS! (See Hand washing)

Why is it important and when should I wash hands?

Washing our hands is very important especially after feeding an animal.

At Whitehouse Farm Centre we recommend you wash your hands with soap and running water after feeding an animal, handling an animal, before you eat, after using the toilet and again before you leave.

The recommended time to spend washing your hands is at least 20 seconds!! We all know children like to get back to having fun as soon as possible, so they might just do a quick rinse. It’s a good idea for grown ups to wash their hands at the same time to show your little ones how it's done properly.

PLEASE NOTE: ALCOHOL GEL IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A THOROUGH HAND WASH WITH SOAP AND WATER AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED TO SANITISE CLEAN HANDS.
